CBSE Class 12 Physics Syllabus 2026–27: Units, Numericals and Revision

Map the official units

The Class XII sequence includes electrostatics and current electricity; magnetism and induction; electromagnetic waves and optics; and modern physics with electronic devices. Consult the CBSE PDF for the exact chapter list and grouped marks, as grouped marks are not individual chapter guarantees.

Practise numericals with a repeatable method

• Sketch the physical situation and list known quantities with units before selecting an equation.
• State the principle used, substitute consistently and check whether the answer is physically plausible.
• Keep a mistake log separating conceptual errors from arithmetic, signs, units and diagram errors.
• Reattempt missed questions later without the solution visible.

Give diagrams and experiments their own practice

Ray diagrams, circuits, field directions and graphs should be drawn from memory and labelled. Read the practical syllabus alongside theory and practise explaining what an observation means, rather than memorising only a procedure.

CBSE has published the Class XII 2026–27 sample-paper and marking-scheme page, including Physics. Use it together with official previous papers. Label older papers by their actual year rather than presenting them as the current pattern.

Translate the unit structure into time

The official 70-mark theory structure groups Electrostatics with Current Electricity for 16 marks; Magnetism with Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current for 17; Electromagnetic Waves with Optics for 18; Dual Nature with Atoms and Nuclei for 12; and Electronic Devices for 7. Because marks are grouped, prepare all chapters inside a group.

Common warning signs for parents

• The student knows formulas but cannot decide which one applies.
• Solutions omit units, sign conventions or the diagram that defines direction.
• Only familiar textbook examples are attempted; changed conditions cause a complete stop.
• Practical records are complete, but the student cannot explain the observation or source of error.

A weekly Physics routine

A useful week combines two concept-and-numerical sessions, one diagram or derivation review, and one mixed timed set. Correct the timed set before adding another. During the final phase, alternate full papers with targeted repair days so that mock tests produce learning rather than just scores.
