CBSE Class 12 Maths Syllabus 2026–27: What to Study and How to Plan
Class 12 Mathematics rewards a steady chain of understanding and practice. A student who postpones calculus until the last month has much less room to diagnose gaps than one who tests each idea as it is taught.
This guide is a planning companion to CBSE's official 2026–27 Mathematics (041) curriculum. Check the linked CBSE document for the authoritative unit list, assessment details and any later amendments.
Start with the official curriculum
Download the Class XII portion of Mathematics (041), then mark each chapter as secure, partly understood or new. Do not treat a school's chapter order as a statement of exam weightage. The official curriculum is the source for the current scope and paper design.
A practical order for revision
- Refresh functions and algebraic manipulation before a long calculus block. Many errors in differentiation and integration come from earlier algebra.
- Practise continuity, differentiation and applications with short mixed sets. Record why an answer failed: concept, setup, algebra or time.
- Build integration and differential-equation fluency through spaced practice rather than a single intensive week.
- Keep vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability active with a weekly mixed set.
Turn the syllabus into a weekly plan
For each chapter, use a four-step cycle: learn the method, solve textbook examples independently, attempt unfamiliar problems, and revisit mistakes after several days. A weekly timed set should include older chapters so that early topics do not disappear from memory.
| Checkpoint | Evidence of readiness |
|---|---|
| Concept | Explain when a method applies and why. |
| Accuracy | Solve a mixed set without looking at worked steps. |
| Exam practice | Complete a timed section and review every lost mark. |
Use papers at the right time
Begin with chapter-level questions while learning. Move to official sample and previous papers once most of the syllabus is covered. Use CBSE's question-paper and academic pages for the latest available material; do not assume an older sample paper is the 2027 paper.
When individual help is useful
If a student repeats the same type of mistake after independent correction, a teacher can identify the missing prerequisite and choose a shorter route through it. A consultation can determine whether Tutormax has a suitable Class 12 Maths teacher and schedule.
Know the official unit weightage
For 2026–27, CBSE assigns 80 theory marks: Relations and Functions 8, Algebra 10, Calculus 35, Vectors and Three-Dimensional Geometry 14, Linear Programming 5, and Probability 8. Internal assessment accounts for 20 marks. These are unit totals, not promises about the marks for an individual chapter.

| Unit | Marks | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| Relations and Functions | 8 | Secure domains, ranges and inverse trigonometric conventions. |
| Algebra | 10 | Practise matrices and determinants with complete working. |
| Calculus | 35 | Give it the largest recurring block across the year. |
| Vectors and 3D Geometry | 14 | Mix spatial interpretation with algebraic steps. |
| Linear Programming | 5 | Practise graphs, feasible regions and interpretation. |
| Probability | 8 | Focus on conditional reasoning, not formula matching. |
A realistic four-week rescue plan
- Week 1: take a mixed diagnostic and rebuild the two weakest prerequisites.
- Week 2: complete focused chapter sets and maintain a worked-error notebook.
- Week 3: add timed sections while continuing daily retrieval from older units.
- Week 4: attempt an official sample paper, analyse every lost mark, and revise the plan.
What parents should monitor
Ask for evidence of correction rather than only hours studied: Can the student explain yesterday's error? Are previously weak question types improving? Is the weekly plan covering all units? A falling test score may reflect one bottleneck, while repeated unfinished papers may point to pacing or question selection.
- A dated syllabus tracker with completed and revisited topics.
- A short error log showing concept, setup, algebra and time errors separately.
- One timed checkpoint per week once most units have been taught.
- Enough sleep and recovery to make long practice sessions productive.
Practise a topic from your revision plan
Choose a topic you have studied and try its focused practice. These guides cover selected skills, not the whole syllabus; use the official curriculum above to check the full course.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the official CBSE syllabus?
This is a study guide. The linked CBSE 2026–27 Mathematics (041) curriculum is the authoritative syllabus.
Should I only practise high-weightage units?
No. Weightage can guide time allocation, but the whole prescribed syllabus needs coverage. Mixed practice also exposes dependencies between units.
When should I start full papers?
Use full timed papers after the main syllabus is covered; use chapter and mixed-topic questions throughout the year.
